“Poole Council for Voluntary Service is a charity which supports other local charities and voluntary groups with their work. Many of the organisations we support have turnovers of between £25,000 and £500,000 and employ staff. However they cannot afford to employ staff with a specific Human Resources role; as a result this is an issue they regularly need our support with.
Fortunately, Michelle Scanlan-Sanson of SSC Consulting volunteered her time to help us in meeting this need, specifically by holding two HR surgeries in July last year. Michelle advised seven organisations, who in turn are delivering a variety of services for disadvantaged people in our communities, including transport services for disabled/older people, a pre school, support services for isolated older people, carers and people with mental health needs.
The organisations wanted help with a variety of issues, including: how to implement appraisal/staff supervision processes, motivating staff and managing their performance, redundancies and pensions; managing sickness and disciplinary processes.
All the organisations said that they were very satisfied with Michelle’s advice (the highest rating) and all confirmed that they were more confident in tackling the issue they had sought help with. In their feedback they also identified ways in which their organisation had developed as a result of Michelle’s support, including the implementation of new policies and more regular staff meetings, supervision sessions and appraisals.
Not only has Michelle helped these organisations with their HR issues, but in doing so the organisations have become stronger and are delivering more effective services to vulnerable people. We are very appreciative of her commitment, skills and flexibility.

“Just before Easter I found a grant funding programme on www.innovateuk.org which I thought we should be eligable for, of course like all these things the deadline was about to close. I got in contact with Lucy due to her Tender / Funding writing expertise and she was able to confirm that we met the eligability criteria and that it was worthwhile putting a proposal together.
Due to Easter bank holidays we had effectively 4 days to complete the process and Lucy did a great job of making sure we provided all the information in the application that would be required.
